Jose Mari Chan in Zamboanga

Last September 28, 2008, Astoria Regency becamethe venue of the concert of Jose Mari Chan. Again, the artist did not only give us good music but also a rare experience in appreciating his priceless songs.

The beneficiary of the concert is the Parroquia de San Isidro Labrador. The High School Class 83 of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, assisted Fr. Arnold Manalo, Parish Priest, of the Parroquia de San Isidro Labrador in the preparations for the concert.

Zamboanga Supports Global Efforts to Stop Global Warming

The Zamboangueños have spoken loudly of their support to the global effort of stopping global warming and saving mother earth. Through the efforts of the City Government headed by Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, the people of Zamboanga City coming from the different sectors of the community filled up the City Coliseum last May 27, 2008 to participate in a very informative event dubbed as “Summit to Disaster Preparedness for Global Warming and Food Security”.

It was one of the biggest gatherings in Zamboanga City that was well participated by people coming from the different sectors of the community. A film entitled “The Inconvenient Truth” was also shown to the public. The topics were very informative and interesting that made the participants stay up to the end of the program even when the event which started at 8 O’ clock in the morning ended at around 6 O’ Clock in the evening.

Speakers from Manila belonging to different agencies and NGOs came over to share their knowledge, experience and opinions on matters related to global warming and Food Security. Practical tips and guides on how to help save mother earth were also shared to the participants.

The Gateway - New Mall Inaugurated

The Ang Family who owns the shoppers chain of stores in Zamboanga City has added another store to the list of their chain of stores. The new mall which is called the Gateway was inaugurated yesterday, May 21, 2008.

The Gateway is located just located across the Southway Mall which was inaugurated sometime last year. Both malls are near the Plaza Pershing, one of the most famous sites in Zamboanga City.

The City Government through Mayor Celso L. Lobregat has lauded the owners of Gateway for their investment in the City and for complying with the policies of the City Government like the provision of an ample parking area for its customers. Gateway, the new mall will surely provide additional employment opportunities for the people of Zamboanga and will further spur business activities in the city.

Zamboanga Amores set for its Pre-Season Games

The Zamboanga Amores basketball team that is one of the teams competing in the Liga Pilipinas, a national basketball league patterned after the defunct MBA, is busily preparing for its Pre-season set on May 23 to May 28, 2008 in Cebu City. Peter Naron, the Zamboangueño player who was formerly playing for Shell Philippines Basketball team in the PBA, is scheduled anytime to join his teammates in Zamboanga City. The Zamboanga Amores is composed mostly of players who were part of the Zamboanga team that bagged the championship in the recent National Prisaa Basketball Competition.

With Peter Naron’s experience in the PBA, he is expected to be one of the players who will contribute much to the team. His versatility and athletic abilities will surely inspire his other teammates to excel and for them to also bring out their abilities for the good of the team.

Golpe-Golpe na Zamboanga

Another event is all set for tonight that will show that Sports is very much alive in Zamboanga – Asia’s Latin City. A boxing match dubbed as “Golpe-Golpe na Zamboanga” will feature a main event fight between Zamboanga’s sensation WBO Orient Flyweight Champion Eric Canoy and Philip Jun Democillo who comes from Davao and is currently ranked No. 3 by the Philippine Boxing Association and ranked No. 1 by the Mindanao Professional Boxing Association. Other Zamboanguño boxers will face boxers from General Santos, Cebu, Saranggani and Manila. This boxing fight organized by the Blue Stallion Promotions of Congressman Erbie Fabian will be held tonight, March 16, 2008 at the City Coliseum at 8 p.m.

Zamboanga Amores

Zamboanga City will finally fulfill its dream of having a team that will represent it in a national league. The City with its team called the “Zamboanga Amores” will be one of the 16 cities that will be participating in the “Liga ng Pilipinas”, a national basketball league that will have a kick off on May 25, 2008. The Liga will hold its opening in three different cities across the country. The league will be divided into two conferences – Northern and Southern Conferences. The Northern Conference will be composed of 8 teams that will come from Luzon while the Southern Conference will be participated by the other 8 teams coming from Visayas and Mindanao.

The players of the Zamboanga Amores are mostly Zamboanga City players who bagged the championship in the National PRISAA. The players are Jeffrey France, Ronald Sarcho, Titing Daja, Lary Necesito, Beng Amil, Glen Caindoy, Mark Kong, Peter Naron, Wang Alvarez, Tim Bascar, Alvin Munio, Emrey Ramirez, David Sebastain, Cristopher Conception and Jonathan Pareño.

PBA Game in Zamboanga City

May 24, 2008, Saturday at 4 pm at the Zamboanga City Coliseum located at Tetuan, (2) two teams from the PBA will collide in a match dubbed as "PBA in Zamboanga". Ginebra San Miguel and Air 21 are expected to give Zamboangueños an exciting game with their powerful foreign imports.
